My account was migrated, why do I need to change name servers?

In order to give customers the best possible hosting experience, we will migrate customers on legacy servers to new hosting servers with new features, functionality, and are typically much faster than the previous server you were on.

When you are migrated from one server to another within NodeSpace, we typically perform a zero-downtime migration. This means that very little downtime will be experienced when your site is moved. However, there is a lot of behind-the-scenes happening that makes this happen. Once your account is moved, you need to take certain actions to avoid interruption in your hosting.

Zero-downtime migrations will require you to either update your name servers (if you're being migrated to a server that enables our DNS Cloud functionality for you) or update the IP address in your DNS records if you do not use our DNS Cloud service (e.g. Cloudflare, etc.). The reason why you need to do this is because the old server that your account was on is still responding to requests for your website and is sending those requests to the server now hosting your site. When we take down the old server, requests to your website will stop. Another reason is performance as the old server is relaying your site through itself, so your website may appear to run slower. When you change your name servers or IP to the new servers or IP, requests will start going directly to the new server.

Please note: Once you are migrated to a server that uses NodeSpace DNS Cloud and you use our DNS Cloud-enabled name servers, any future server migrations will be completely seamless as our systems will update everything automatically.
