What are the metrics on hosting plans and how do they work?

On any of our shared or reseller hosting plans, you will see that the order page contains a section called "Metrics" and it outlines how you will be billed in case you have any overages. We utilize this system because it is more fair than "unlimited" hosting. Typically, "unlimited" hosting plans will be limited in the number of files (called inodes) or prevent you from using your web space for anything other than your website. You can read more about this deceptive marketing tactic.

As an example, you can see when ordering a reseller hosting account, we use metric billing on sub-accounts, disk space, and bandwidth. Even though the plan in our example comes with 15 GB of disk space, you and your accounts can utilize up to 40 GB or just over 2.5 times the plan limit. For bandwidth, this plan is allotted 750 GB but can utilize up to 2 TB of bandwidth. There are 10 cPanel accounts included, but there is no upper limit.

In case of an overage, you will be billed on your next invoice as overages are calculated at the end of the month.

Example:

In the cycle April 12 to May 11, you now have 12 accounts, all accounts are using a total of 14 GB of disk space, and use 720 GB of bandwidth. Your next invoice will be generated on May 4 for $15.00.

For your next cycle that runs May 12 to June 11, you have 13 accounts, all accounts are using a total of 17 GB of disk space, and use 760 GB of bandwidth. The invoice generated on June 4 will have your plan's base price of $15.00, 2x additional sub-accounts for $1.00 from your previous billing cycle. Your total invoice amount due June 11 will be $16.

Then your invoice generated on July 4 will have your plan's base price of $15.00, 3x additional sub-accounts for $1.50 and 10x additional gigabytes of bandwidth for $5.00 from your previous billing cycle. Your total invoice amount due July 11 will be $21.50.

If you cancel your services, an invoice will be generated with any current overages. This invoice must be paid in order to cancel your account.
